The Rafter Tails  as a design element were  conceived by Darrell Peart after a visit to Greene and Greene’s 1908   David B. Gamble House   in Pasadena, California.  The concept  is of a supporting structure (rafter tails) that reach out to cradle the top.  It is often imitated by other contemporary  furniture makers.
