Cherry, Plum Pudding Mahogany veneer

Cherry Sofa Table

I designed this piece for my daughter Julia, and her family. For my other daughter I had made a desk featuring a wave shape passing through the drawers. My intention was to continue exploring the wave idea with this project.
About the this time my granddaughter got a pet snake. I hate snakes and cringe even at photos of them. But I could not get the vision of the snake out of my head.  Soon I was envisioning the wavy motion of a snake as it moves – and then applied that shape to the design at hand.
The top view looked great, but when I transferred contours to the base I couldn’t achieve the feel I was after.  After numerous revisions it still was not working.  I preserved many of the other elements of the design and redrew it as a bow front.  That’s when it t started to sing – I liked it!

The wavy shape idea was still bouncing around in my head though. The concept took form as my   Tempest Table.
