peirced tsuba wire-way
|
This design is a spin-off of my Aurora
Table Desk. Both pieces are original designs by Darrell, but borrow
inspiration from Greene
and Greene as well as others. There is one tsuba shaped ebony wire-way inlayed in the top. A tsuba is the guard between the handle and the blade on a Japanese sword. They came in many shapes and Charles Greene had a collection of them. This particular tsuba shape can was used often by Greene and Greene - especially in the Gamble House. The "straps" are Darrell's interpretation of a little used and not widely known Greene and Greene detail from the Ford House Letter Case. The drawer pulls are a James
Krenov inspired detail. |
